Reborn is a tall (around 5'10) elegant Italian man. He is thin, having more of a dancer's build than a fighter's. He's slightly tanned. He's got dark grey eyes and jet black hair normally swept up and back. He's known for his unique sideburns, which extend down his face and curl just slightly. He's normally always in an impeccable suit . Outdoors he is never without a fedora.
It should be noted that Reborn is also very skilled at disguise. He's able to pull off outfits and acts of other genders/cultures/races/persons with ease. Very few can actually see through his disguises when he's trying hard enough.

Raffaello Ferro, known now as Reborn, was born in Sicily in October of 1886. He was from a modest to middle-class working family. They were merchants and traders mostly. At least that's what it was on the surface. The Ferro Family was also one of the prominent members of the Cosa Nostra (mafia) in Sicily. They are kings of the Black Market and made a killing during the Great War as arms dealers and smugglers. Raffaello was the second son of the late Ferro Don. He grew up with a gun in his hand and a deal on his lips. He and his elder brother, Giuseppe grew up learning the ins and outs of the Family. With Giuseppe as the Head and Raffaello as the "left hand" of the Ferro Family (the assassin/hitman) as well as the one who worked the books.
During his teenaged years Italy really started to pressure Sicily and a lot of businesses and citizens suffered heavy taxation, terrible conditions, and poor treatment after the Italian takeover of the island. The mafia became more and more despised and many of the Cosa Nostra left the island to find better opportunities in the New World. Raffaello was one of nearly a million Italians that immigrated to America, relocating to Chicago.
The year was 1900 when he stepped off the boat and entered Chicago's Little Italy. He was 15 at the time. Because of the massive surge of Italian immigrants to the area the young man went unchecked and undocumented for the better part of a year. By the time he was recorded as being in America he had managed to get some doctored papers. He renamed himself "Reborn" and tried to distance himself from the Ferro name and start his life in the bustling metropolitan town.
He quickly discovers that of his skill sets it is only his skills as a gunman that was actually wanted. At that time many respectable businesses wouldn't hire Italians. Thus, strapped for money and needing a roof over his head and food in his stomach, he returned to the mafia. He joined a large group of Italians called "the Black Hand". In the following years Reborn rose to the top of his chosen profession.
Skilled gunmen were in high demand and as corruption and crime ran amok in the city, his business boomed. By the time he was 24, he had become the number one freelance hitman in the city. In fact, the 38 deaths by the unknown mafia assassin knowing as the "Shotgun Man" over the year of 1910 to 1911 are attributed to him.
His work as a freelancer also brought him trouble. His loyalties were often put to question and after a time very few members of the Chicago Underworld would hire him, at least openly. He still found jobs here and there but in general he was forced to sideline, taking work in a bookmaker in a small gambling house while continuing his work for the Hand at night. Work came to a complete stop in 1919 with the formation of the Chicago Crime Commission. This commission started aggressively going after the mobsters in Chicago.
With the police after anyone associated with Organized Crime and him without the full protection of a single Family he knew he had to go to ground until he could reinvent himself again. Taking the money he had saved up from his jobs he took a train out east. On that train he met an Italian man who had been hired to teach at some school. That man never got off the train. Instead of Professor R. Mancuso the school got Reborn.
The year is now 1921 and Reborn has been teaching now for two years. He has been living and working as Professor Mancuso. His skill with numbers and books makes him apt to teach mathematics and accounting and no one seems to question that the R. Mancuso that came was 20 years younger and 100 pounds lighter than the one that was actually hired.

Reborn is a man of extremes. In canon, he shows extreme loyalty, effort, action, and control. He also has extreme expectations for himself and for others. He doesn't do anything unless he puts all of himself into it and he expects just as much from others. This is one of his greatest strengths, because once he is determined to do something, little or nothing can or will stop him from making it happen. However, it is also a huge weakness because it also means he cares to an extreme amount as well. This is care that his enemies could use against him.
In order to keep that from happening, the extreme control comes in. In canon, he rarely ever shows the full force of his emotions. His usual expressions are a subtle facade of minor annoyance or amusement. He rarely emotes anything stronger than that and he's become very skilled in schooling his expressions. It's only in very charges situations that he loses his temper, such as when his old friend and ally was revealed to be locked inside of a soul/life sucking machine. Though he was told and promised to stay out of the fight, the expression on his face says that if he was a lesser man, he would have shot and killed the person who did it without any remorse or guilt. It is also the same way with the Sky Arcobaleno, Uni. When she is threatened, he angers quite quickly.
While in KHR! he holds the title of "World's Strongest Hitman", he has pretty much left that assassin work behind. He has taken to teaching the next generation of Bosses of the Mafia, first with Dino and then with Tsuna. It seems he's only given these extreme cases, in which is has to bring out the strengths hidden within his cowardly students so that they can survive the challenges that are ahead for them. (whether they want to actually learn or not).
He is fully devoted to this. In creating a generation of Mafia Bosses that are both compassionate and strong. To do so, he believes that no method is too crazy or abusive if that's what it takes for his students to learn. In the novellas, he has even dressed a student (Dino, aged 14 at the time) up as a sheep and set starving wolves on him as part of a lesson. He will shoot at them, attack them, set up elaborate ordeals for them and even dress in complex convoluted costumes himself to assist in training and friends.
He rarely shows it, but as the series progresses, he is quite proud of the progress his students make. So much so, that even when he was given the chance to establish a team or fight to free himself from his curse, he instead turns the entire thing into a learning exercise for his current student. This is why he doesn't step in to fight for Tsuna, only going so far before stepping back and letting his student fight. His job is to make him a great boss. Nothing else matters.
Reborn has zero tolerance for idiots. He doesn't mind ignorance, because that can be taught and overcome (like with Tsuna), but when faced with sheer foolish stupidity, Reborn is more apt to kick the idiot in the face than offer then help (as seen mostly with Skull, the Cloud Arcobaleno). He has a respect for those who fight and fight intelligently. He likes those who think and then act after weighing the options without the thinking dragging them down. This does not mean he's not completely serious. He enjoys riling his friends up with competitive teasing and banter as well as rather brutal literal head-butting competitions (with Colonello, the Rain Arcobaleno).

Tick tock. Tick tock. This hour is going by far too slowly. There are other things Reborn could be doing. He had homework to mark for one. And Leon, his chameleon, isn't going to feed himself. He can't think of a larger waste of his time than sitting here in the detention room watching the little brat that had earned their desk there. And for what? Some prank that didn't go the way it was supposed to? What an idiot. Didn't that little punk know that if you were going to pull something that you don't get caught. But he supposed not everyone was a master at not being red handed.
He sighs and looks at the clock again. He's sure the kid is looking at it too. He supposes he should give them something to do. This is punishment right? Well then, he can do punishment. And not just sitting there on their hands and staring at each other and the clock. It's too bad he can't just take care of this physically. The dean seems to frown on corporal punishment. He still thinks kicking some moron in the head teaches more than an hour in detention, but he's trying to keep his job, at least until things blow over in Chicago and he can go back to his former means of employment.
Reborn's usual slightly disappointed frown strains down more and he stands. It's a smooth motion, with no wasted movements. He scrapes the chair loudly against the floor to get the kid's attention and then stands at the board with a bit of chalk. On the board, he starts writing a bunch of complex math equations. They are the sort of numbers that book makers had to be able to crunch on the fly. He stops after twenty different strings of numbers and integers and unknowns.
He heads over to the desk and the student stuck with him. "Solve them and you'll go scott free." He puts the chalk down on the desk and nods his head towards the board. "Well, if you want out of here, get to it."
